Year 11 History Students Visit London ( Published: 04/12/2024)
Year 11 History students visited London on Friday 22nd November 2024. Students took the early morning train to London and then navigated the underground system in their groups to take a tour or Whitechapel, including an in-depth study of the historic environment that made it so easy for Jack the Ripper to commit his murders and evade capture.
After lunch, students were inspired by a visit to the Tower of London, which helped consolidate their understanding of crime and punishment through time, as well as the impact of the Norman invasion. They were particularly interested to see the different methods of torture that have been used over the ages!
After the visit, students enjoyed crossing Tower Bridge and pointing out some of the famous London sights, before a very sleepy train ride home.
The day was a wonderful opportunity for our students to engage with the history of London and get first-hand experience of elements of their studies. They have also been shown how easy it is to navigate London, and many have announced plans to visit again when they are older.
Miss Carr-Brown, Head of Humanities
It was an eye opening experience that took us back to 1888 in Whitechapel and 1078 at the Tower of London, which allowed us to develop a sense of historical events.
