MVIS Ltd Visit for Manchester Week ( Published: 19/07/2023)

As part of TEMA’s Manchester Week celebration, two colleagues from MVIS Ltd in Matlock, Derbyshire visited Year 8 students to share their career paths and immerse students in a design task.

Anne, Commercial and Operations Director, and Ben, Marketing Manager, fielded a range of questions from inquisitive Year 8s about their career paths and current roles. Students asked about wages, rationale for choosing their current role and proudest moments in their careers.

Then, the students had the opportunity to design a slide to display on a VMS (variable message sign) that Anne and Ben had brought with them. Students used WebStudio (an online platform) to design their slides before heading outside to see their design transformed into a real display.

It was great to host MVIS Ltd as part of TEMA’s Manchester Week celebrations. Students were thoroughly engaged in the Q&A with Ben and Anne, and they loved the opportunity to try a design task for themselves and then see their work displayed on a sign.

It’s always nice to get out in the community and speak to children and help them get a better understanding of what those signs do and how they work. Lots of the students that we spoke to had seen the signs before in and around the Etihad Stadium next to the school, so next time they see them, they will have a much better understanding of how the message has got there and the work that goes into it.
