Students are introduced to the richness and diversity of British and world history. Students are equipped with knowledge and skills through interacting with a wide-ranging curriculum, allowing learners to see how events have shaped the world today. Students develop their attributes by forming an understanding of how our history forms our sense of identity and place in the world, to become more empathetic and open minded. Our curriculum is sequenced broadly chronologically within each year group and allows students to continually revisit both the second order concepts and identified themes of; power and control, invasion and empire, and religion and society. This is designed so that students are able to access a rich body of stories and see how these concepts shaped the world.
History Curriculum
Our curriculum covers world and British history from c800-present by exploring key enquiry questions. Students are also given the opportunity to visit the People’s History Museum and Imperial War Museum North at KS3.
At GCSE, students study the Edexcel History specification, including a trip to the historic environment of Whitechapel in London.
