Careers Activities Aplenty during the Autumn Term

A round-up of our programme of careers activities during the 2019 Autumn term.
We always aim to provide our students and their family’s with as much support as they need to make well informed decisions about their future. We offer a range of activities that will open their eyes to the wide range of opportunities available to them in the future and we recognise the importance of starting this in Year 7.

- College assemblies and lunchtime presentation and application drop in sessions have taken place for all Year 11 students
- We held our annual Future Focus Evening where all Year 10 and 11 students and their parents/carers were invited to meet with a wide range of colleges, apprenticeship providers and large companies to find out more about their options after Year 11
- We launched the NCS programme with our Year 11 students and a record number of students have signed up for the programme of activities that will take place this summer
- Year 10 GCSE PE students have taken part in college taster days, focusing on courses in Sport
- Year 10 students had the chance to visit Liverpool John Moores University to find out about student life, finance, courses available and take a tour of the campus. This was followed up with a workshop in school with GM Higher about the range of options in higher education
- Year 7 students have taken part in a campus visit to Manchester Metropolitan University, starting to explore options in higher education
- A group of Year 7 students have been taking part in the Junior Engineering Engagement Programme with the Transformation Trust and ABM, focusing on careers in facilities management and Engineering
- 15 Year 10 students have been taking part in the 1 million mentors programme, where they meet with a person from the digital and tech industry once a month to be mentored in relation to their future career aspirations
- We have worked alongside the Manchester United Foundation to identify Year 10 and 11 students for events relating to NHS careers and an RAF STEM event
- We have continued our series of careers business lunches where specially invited students heard from local and national companies about job roles, apprenticeships and skills
- Students in Years 9 and 10 had the chance to visit local companies and take part in digital experience days
- A group of Year 10 students took part in a business enterprise/dragon’s den competition at The Manchester College and one of our students won first prize for ‘best presenter’
- Year 11 students have been having their one to one careers guidance interviews and college applications have been completed to a wide range of local colleges
