TEMA Makes History by Achieving the Full Rainbow Flag Award
Published: 19/07/2018
The East Manchester Academy has committed itself to working towards equality and inclusion for our LBGTQ+ community by completing all areas of the Rainbow Flag Award. The award from The Proud Trust encourages a whole organisational approach to LGBT+ inclusion, as well as developing strategies to combat homophobic, biphobic and transphobic, (HBT) and bullying.
We are thrilled at what has been achieved at TEMA this year, by far the furthest distance journey that we have seen. You are the only secondary school that will be awarded the full RFA by The Proud Trust in the first cohort – very well done indeed.
The Proud Trust
By committing ourselves to the Rainbow Flag Award we have pledged to improve the lives of all the young people within our care as well as those from LGBT+ families, and LGBT+ staff members.
Through a process of self-assessment and ongoing monitoring and feedback, we have met all outlined standards in the following areas:
- Skilled Teacher (first won in 2017)
- Supportive Governors & Parents
- Effective Policies
- Inclusive Curriculum
- Pastoral Support
- Pupil Voice
The Rainbow Flag Award is a quality assurance framework for all schools and colleges, focusing on LGBT+, (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, plus other related identities), inclusion and visibility.
