TEMA Celebrates LGBTQ+ History Month 2025 ( Published: 25/02/2025)
The theme for 2025, Activism and Social Change, served as a poignant reminder of the ongoing fight for equality and the remarkable individuals who have spearheaded progress.
To launch our celebrations, all TEMA students attended a special assembly that focused on the theme of Activism and Social Change. The assembly delved into the historical backdrop of LGBTQ+ rights movements, spotlighting key figures and transformative events that have shaped the journey toward equality. It underscored the importance of allyship, understanding, and respect for all individuals, irrespective of sexual orientation or gender identity. Students gained insights into the diverse experiences within the LGBTQ+ community and the continuous efforts needed to create a truly inclusive society.
To further enrich our celebration, we were delighted to welcome the Koval family to TEMA. They generously shared their journey to parenthood as a same-sex couple with our Child Development students, providing a real-life example of diverse family structures and promoting understanding and acceptance.
In addition to the assembly and visit, we organised a school-wide scavenger hunt, which turned out to be a fantastic learning experience. Students were given competition forms and tasked with exploring the school, seeking out posters featuring prominent LGBTQ+ figures displayed on staff room doors and offices. For every one found, they had to record an interesting fact about their life.
The scavenger hunt was a huge success, with students enthusiastically participating and demonstrating a keen interest in learning more about LGBTQ+ history. We were incredibly impressed by the level of engagement and the insightful facts students uncovered.
Congratulations to our winners.
