Students during a 'Words for Work' programme, in April 2025

Feedback during the 'Words for Work' programme, April 2025

Words for Work ( Published: 30/04/2025)

As part of our commitment to promoting professional pathways and our ‘Talk at TEMA’ initiative, Year 9 students took part in the National Literacy Trust’s ‘Words for Work’ programme.

We were delighted to welcome in volunteers from law firm, Browne Jacobson, who worked with 30 of our Year 9 students on the National Literacy Trust’s ‘Words for Work’ programme. Prior to the event, students took part in a number of sessions focused on developing their communication skills, and worked in teams to develop a presentation which they had to deliver. As part of the workshop with Browne Jacobson volunteers, students took part in a speed networking event where they were able to ask questions about the volunteer’s job roles and career journeys. They were also able to deliver their presentations to the team and receive feedback from professionals in a number of roles.

It was useful for the future and it really helped me to think about my future aspirations.
Balkis, Year 9 student

We have had a great day working with the students. They have been really engaged and presented well to the volunteers and their peers.
