Imperial War Museum North Trip for Year 9 Students ( Published: 08/03/2024)
Year 9 visited the Imperial War Museum North on Tuesday 5th March 2024. Students took the tram across to Salford Quays and were introduced to the museum content by experienced Army veterans. They took the time to reflect on what they were seeing and expressed shock at the experiences of some of the victims of war. They were particularly impressed by the real military planes, tanks, and ammunition that they saw.
Students took the opportunity to speak to the veterans as they were going round, and found out lots about their experiences of fighting in war in more recent times.
After the visit, students enjoyed eating their lunch on the quayside with the first bit of Spring sunshine we have had this year!
The day was a wonderful opportunity for our students to engage with the topic of peace and conflict, and realise what the impact of war is on people around the world. Many were able to share their own family stories with the veterans and came away with lots to talk about.
Miss Carr-Brown, Head of Humanities
I really enjoyed the museum, especially the tank. I didn’t realise that I could get the tram there so easily so I will be able to take my family and visit again.
