School Travel Strategy Consultation ( Published: 25/11/2024)
The draft strategy sets out their ambitions to boost the number of primary, secondary and further education students travelling via sustainable means by 2030. The city-region is seeking to tackle the barriers to young people walking, wheeling and cycling, or using public transport. It has been developed as a shared priority between the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) and the 10 local authorities.
They have now launched the consultation on the draft strategy and would like to encourage you to take part.
The 10 week consultation is open to everyone who lives or travels in Greater Manchester. Children and young people and their parents and guardians are encouraged to share their views in particular, as their experiences and ideas are essential in shaping a transport system that works for them now and in the future.
They’re asking for our support in raising the profile of the consultation and helping to encourage as many children and young people, parents/carers and school staff to take part and share their views.

How You Can Help?
- They especially want to hear from children and young people directly. On the consultation website, you can find an easy-read strategy. For those who may not be able to complete the survey, they have set up a dedicated email address (GMschooltravel@tfgm.com) to receive video feedback and responses. They require parental or teacher consent on video to accept video feedback
- Parents/carers are invited to give their feedback too
- Teachers and school staff can take part in the consultation and share their views
The feedback they receive will be analysed once the consultation closes and will be used to inform the final version of the School Travel Strategy.
If you have any questions or would like more details to share, please let them know by contacting: GMschooltravel@tfgm.com
